Jefferson's politics • 1768 elected to house of Burgesses. • 1779-1781 Served as governor for Virginia • 1783 elected a delegate of congress • 1784-1789 was a commissioner and minister in France • 1790-1793 served as the first secretary of state • 1997-1801 served as Vice President for John Adams • 1801-1809 was President of the United States
