  1. Physical Science & Georgia StudiesLesson Plans April 16-20,2012

  2. Physical Science Lesson PlansApril 16, 2012 OPENING: In your Interactive Notebook: You are the commander of a space station located about halfway between Earth and the moon. You are in the Command Center, and your chief of security tells you that sensors have just detected an explosion 61.054 km from the station. How long will it be before you hear the sound of the explosion? EQ:How issound transmitted through a medium? GPS:S8P4 Student will explore the wave nature of sound and electromagnetic radiation. d. describe how behavior of waves is affected by medium( such as air, water, solids) e. Relate the properties of sound to everyday experiences. WORK SESSION: Properties of Sound Basic of Physics: Exploring Sound (Video) Properties of Sound (pitch)/ Notes and Discussion Doppler Diagram: draw a diagram showing the Doppler effect (listener, a vehicle, and lines depicting sound waves)Sound Relationships: Frequency and Amplitude vs. Loudness and Pitch/Match each term with its counterpart explain the relationship involved in each pair. CRCT Review: Practice from the Coach Book. CLOSING:What interaction of sound waves determines sound quality? Why do different instruments have different sound qualities? HOMEWORK: Prepare for CRCT Testing

  3. CRCT TESTING THIS WEEKAPRIL 18-20, 2012 CRCT TESTING NEXT WEEK APRIL 23-24, 2012

  4. Georgia Studies Lesson PlansApril 17, 2012 OPENING: Introduction from Friday (discussion) What if you were separated from the rest of the class; denied materials and supplies; refused permission to take breaks, go to the water fountain, have breakfast or lunch, ride the school buses, attend assemblies or participate in school activities/programs. How would you feel? What would you do to change that? Would that be considered to be fair? EQ: What advances were made in civil rights during the postwar period? GPS:SS8H10 The student will evaluate key post-World War II developments of Georgia from 1945 to 1970. SS8H11 The student will evaluate the role of Georgia in the modern civil rights movement. WORK SESSION: Complete Notes from Friday-The Civil Rights Movement (436-451). Power Point Notes/Discussion. Complete on a sheet of paper the It’s Your Turn Questions from page 450 (1-5). Activity from Friday: Who Am I? Georgia Stories: “ The Beat of Civil Rights”, “Civil Rights in the Classroom” Discuss and answer questions CLOSING: Explain the one-person, one-vote concept. What bill did the march from Selma to Montgomery influence Congress to pass? HOMEWORK: Prepare for CRCT Testing

  5. Vocabulary: Georgia in the Modern World Women’s right movement Affirmative Action Program Watergate Title IX Equal Rights Amendment one-person, one vote concept • suburbs • baby boom • cold war • Nation School Lunch Act • Korean War • reapportion • sit-in

  6. Physical Science Lesson PlansApril 18, 2012 (CRCT TESTING) OPENING: In your Interactive Notebook: On an oscilloscope, does a wave with a larger amplitude indicate louder sound or higher pitch? As frequency increases, does pitch get higher or lower? What is the speed of sound dependent on? EQ:How is amplitude and loudness related? GPS:S8P4- Student will explore the wave nature of sound and electromagnetic radiation. a. Identify the characteristics of electromagnetic and mechanical waves. d. describe how the behavior of waves is affected by medium ( such as air, water, solids). e. Relates the properties of sound everyday experiences. f. Diagram the parts of the waves and explain how the parts are affected by changes in amplitude and pitch. WORK SESSION: Interactions of Sound Waves- Power Notes, Discussion and Questions Activity: Interactions of Sound Waves. CRCT Review: Practice from the Coach Book. CLOSING: Ticket-Out-the-Door List three important things that you can remember about sound. Write one question that you still have. HOMEWORK: Prepare for CRCT Testing

  7. Georgia Studies Lesson PlansApril 19, 2012 (CRCT TESTING) OPENING: Imagine how life was in the 1950… Based on the information already discussed in class up to this point; Describe how do you think that you would have felt if you had lived in this era of time? GPS: SS8H12 The student will explain the importance of significant social, economic, and political developments in Georgia since 1970. WORK SESSION: A Period of Protests and Challenges (452-461)- Power Point Notes and Discussion. It’s Your Turn Questions Page 461 (1-4 ) Activity: Your Blueprint for the Future Georgia Stories: “The Music Industry”, “Women in the Work Force CLOSING: Read “A Final Note”, Write a summary paragraph of the passages. HOMEWORK: Prepare for CRCT Testing

  8. Physical Science Lesson PlansApril 20, 2012 (CRCT TESTING) OPENING: In your Interactive Notebook: What is the difference between a mirror and a lens? EQ:What is the difference between a convex lens and a concave lens? GPS:S8P4- Student will explore the wave nature of sound and electromagnetic radiation. a. Identify the characteristics of electromagnetic and mechanical waves. d. describe how the behavior of waves is affected by medium ( such as air, water, solids). e. Relates the properties of sound everyday experiences. f. Diagram the parts of the waves and explain how the parts are affected by changes in amplitude and pitch. WORK SESSION: Mirrors and Lenses- Directed Reading ( 668-673) Section Review (673) 1-10 Video: One pager “Mirrors and Lenses” (2:55) CRCT Review: Practice from the Coach Book. CLOSING:Describe the images formed by concave and convex HOMEWORK: Prepare for CRCT Testing
