  1. Do Contacts Really Help Astigmatism? Lindsey Nolen Lauren Miller, Tyler Wilz Keri Thompkins

  2. THE Topic Our group will be testing whether or not prescription contacts provide better vision to people with astigmatism. We will be giving 50 people(25 males and 25 females) prescription contacts, and then another 50 ( 25 males and 25 females) contacts without any prescription. We will be using blinding so that an individual does not know whether or not they have prescription contacts. We will complete a vision test after the contacts are inserted to test the effects on vision.

  3. USING Blinding We are using blinding by giving some of the subjects prescription contacts, and others non-prescription contacts. The subjects are not told which type of contacts they are receiving.

  4. Blocking There are two groups of 50. The first group of 50, with the prescription contacts, consists of two genders, 25 males and 25 females. The second group, without the prescription contacts, consists of 25 males and 25 females.

  5. The Placebo The placebo would be the contacts without prescription.

  6. Placebo Effect The placebo effect would be if the individuals with the non-prescription contacts seemingly improved astigmatisms.

  7. Confounding The subjects could have different effects based on eye color, age, or how strong their astigmatisms are.

  8. Replication The replication would be that the same two groups of 50 (25 males and 25 females in each) would be observed weekly over the course of ten years.

  9. CONCLUSION • If conducted successfully, the results of this experiment would show that the subjects with the prescription contacts had improved/better vision and ultimately less problems caused by their astigmatisms.
