  3. Soccer team Most important national sport The fans (Oranjelegioen) are known for their colourful cheering The Dutch hold the record for playing the most Word Cup finals without ever winning the final.

TULIPS DE KEUKENHOF:The most beautiful spring garden in the world: It is unique and famous throughout the world It is one of the most popular attractions in the Netherlands It is the largest bulb flower park in the world 7 million flower bulbs are planted by hand Walk of Fame with tulips named after famous people.

  5. The Royal Family The Netherlands is a constitutional monarchy: the position of the monarch is laid down in the Constitution. The monarch is the Dutch head of state and, together with the ministers, makes up the government. Queen Beatrix has been the head of state of the Kingdom of the Netherlands since 1980. Queens Day on April 30th , a national holiday celebrated throughout the country

  6. CHEESE Cheese has been produced in the Netherlands since prehistoricallytimes. The Netherlands is one of the largestcheese-producing countries in Europe.  There are still 5 operational cheese markets in the Netherlands

  7. COW The  DutchBelted (Lakenvelder) breed of Dairy cattleis nowadays rare and therefor not for consumption There are a lot of cows in the Netherlands mostly milk cows You can see the cows all over the Netherlands grazing in the fields

  8. WOODEN SHOES (CLOGS) Dutch clogs are made for every day use. The red painting on top makes the clogs look like leather shoes. It is a traditional motif on Dutch clogs. Painted and unpainted clogs are sold and worn throughout the Netherlands

  9. HERRING(NIEUWE HARING) Vlaggetjesdag; The day that the first herring is shipped in the harbour by decorated fish boats. As of this moment all of the Dutch will taste the new herring. Herring is a National Delight

  10. BICYCLES The bike is the most popular transportation There are more bikes than people in the Netherlands (18 million) You can bike across the Netherlands on approximately 17.000 km of cycle path There are parking lots especially for bikes everywhere

  11. MILLS Since the Netherlands are below sea level, the main purpose for the Dutch mill is to pump water. There are mills for milling grain There are special modern windmills designed to make energy

BITTERBAL, FRIKANDEL AND KIBBELING Bitterbal: a savoury Dutch meat-based snack eaten plain or with mustard Frikandel: a Dutch meat based snack, eaten plain, with mayonnaise, curry or special (curry, mayonnaise and onions) Kibbeling: a Dutch cod based snack, eaten with a sauce All three are deep fried and originally made in the Netherlands

  13. ICE SKATING Very important Dutch sport with lots of varieties such as: Speed skating Ice skating Marathon skating The “Elf StedenTocht” (11 cities tour) Or just skating for fun

  14. DROP (LIQUORICE) A famous Dutch sweet is zoute drop, salty liquorice and liquorice sweets. These sweets are small, black and look much like gums. The four types of drop are soft sweet, soft salt, hard sweet and hard salt drop.
