  1. Over-Crowded Space: Is the World Big Enough? An investigation into the Over-Population of the World By: Nathan Craig

  2. As part of a research team I will research the population of three countries (USA, Canada and Mexico). • Using the data I found of the population of each country over time I will formulate a exponential regression to predict the population in the future. I will also discuss the accuracy of this regression equation. • I will compare the populations of these three countries to the amount of land (acres). • The purpose is to make a conclusion of whether the world truly is big enough. What? How? Why?

  3. Thoughts • Is the World Over-Crowded or are our Cities Over-Crowded? • How many data points do I need to accurately depict the population growth of a country? • How much land should a country have per person? Predictions • The USA and Mexico are over-crowded. • Canada has tons of room!!!! Initial Thoughts and Predictions

  4. Raw Data

  5. Regression Equation is very accurate r=.9551. • Exponential Regression Line almost fits data. • Based off of data we can make an accurate prediction using the equation given. Data Analysis

  6. Regression Equation is extremely accurate r=.992 • Exponential Regression Line almost fits data. • Based off of data we can make an accurate prediction using the equation given. Data Analysis

  7. Regression Equation is very accurate r=.981 • Exponential Regression Line almost fits data. • Based off of data we can make an accurate prediction using the equation given. Data Analysis

  8. Data Calculations

  9. Based off of our research and beliefs we determined each country would need five acres per person to sustain resources and live comfortably. • Looking at the data our predictions are almost correct, the USA is almost over populated, Mexico is over populated and Canada has lots of room to spare based on our definition. • In 50 years if the countries continue to grow at their current rate the USA and Mexico will be very over populated and Canada will have about half as much free space as they do now. Data Conclusions

  10. Based off of the data we are on track to Over-populate the world if we need five acres per person. • Countries need to be aware of using up necessary resources and how to minimize the amount of land needed per person. Implications

  11. How much land does a country really needper person? • Re-calculate the exponential regression using the entire world. • Investigate other groups project to see if our results hold true. Further research….
