Small Satellite Mission on Bi-spectral Infrared Detection (BIRD) – a Prototype Mission of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) The BIRD technology demonstrator mission was prepared and is conducted by the German Aerospace Center with support of several German institutes, enterprises, and universities Astro- und Feinwerktechnik Adlershof GmbH Global Fire Monitoring Center

  2. BIRD Primary Mission Goals: Test of new micro satellite technology components Test of a dedicated Hot Spot Recognition System Test of new algorithms toestimate quantitative characteristics of wildfires, volcanic activity, and coal seam fires
