  8. Degrees in Psychology This session is for students starting first year in the following degrees • Bachelor of Behavioural Science (Psychology) • BBSc OR BBSc/BA Combined Degree • Bachelor of Psychological Science • BPsySc • Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) • BPsy(Hons)

  10. First Year topic requirements To satisfy the first year requirement • You must complete 8 first year topics (full-time) • We recommend four topics in each semester • For all degrees this includes: • All 3 core psychology topics • PSYC1101 (Sem 1), PSYC1102 (Sem2), PSYC1106 (Sem 1)

  11. First Year topic requirements To satisfy the first year requirement • You must complete 8 first year topics • In addition to the psychology topics, you do five other topics • The requirements for these five other topics varies by degree

  12. Non-psychology first Year topic requirements BBSc • You must include a second major • This is a two (or three) topic sequence in one of 12 areas of study • Continue study at second and third year level • Complements + Backup • We recommend two areas at first year

  13. Non-psychology first Year topic requirements BPsy(Hons) • You must study a second major at first year only • This is a two (or three) topic sequence in one of 12 areas of study BPsySc • It is all elective • We recommend you consider topics in the second major areas

  15. Combining your B.B.Sc. (Psych.) with a Bachelor of Arts • Adds a year and a bit to your studies but you graduate with two degrees (and three majors) • Allows you to complete majors and minors not available in Bachelor of Behavioural Science, such as Archaeology, English, Environmental Studies, International Relations, Screen and Media, History • See Trish Wescombe for further details

Part-time Study? • Uni definition: 13.5 units (3 topics) per semester is deemed full-time • My definition: Anything less than 18 units (4 topics) is deemed part-time • Things to consider re part-time study • Think of studying at Uni as a (nearly) full-time job • The more other activities (e.g., work, family) you have the less sensible it is to do full-time study • Consider reducing your study load

Enrolling • Via the Web on the Flinders Uni website. • You use the Student Information System • You need to do two things for each topic • Enrol in the topic • Note: Options on the study plan • Register in classes (lectures if alternative times are available; tutorials; any other scheduled class) • In many topics, there will be more than one lecture per week • Tutorials may not start in the first week – check it out • Tutorials may not occur every week – check it out

What if things go wrong at Uni? • Get help • Counselling Service • Your first year Psychology Coordinator (Lydia) • Your Director (or Deputy Director) of Studies • What if I don’t like (or struggle with) Psychology (or other subjects) • Seek advice • Consider changing topics or even your degree
