  4. Finishing up at BCI. • Do you have what you need to graduate? • Community service hours –Deadline June 30th • Must attend Grad meeting!!! April 28th. All students that intend on graduating need to be there. • Grad letters, commencement forms, award applications, gown sizing – all done there • Did you know…only 1 diploma can ever be issued so keep it safe • Purchase a grad photo package and get nice portfolio and composite pic at Grad ceremony

  5. Not staying for Semester 2? • Let us know you are not returning for semester 2 • Continue to follow us on twitter • Come into main office to get graduation information sheet in April • Make sure you have everything you need to move on • Come in to get your grad photos done

Pathway #1Entering the Workplace • If you are entering the work force straight from high school then you need to come to the CareerLink employment services session. • A representative from CareerLink will be there to answer questions and give advice • DATE: November 18 at 11:30 in Conference Room A

  9. Pathway #2 Apprenticeships 4 Sectors • Construction • Industrial • Motive Power • Service *Over 150 serviceable trades in Ontario in the various sectors

  10. More On Apprenticeships Three Ways to Enter a Skilled Trade in Ontario from Grade 12 1. Find an employer who is willing to train you 2. Enter a Pre-apprenticeship Training Program 3. Complete a college diploma that relates to your preferred trade.

  12. Pathway #3College • Apply online at: www.ontariocolleges.ca • “Equal Consideration”* Deadline: February 1, 2015 *“Equal Consideration” means that this is the deadline for competitive programs. All other programs will accept applications past that date. We recommend that you apply by Feb. 1.

  13. College Application Help No excuses!!! • Get the step-by-step sheet that will help you apply. Available at the end of this session and in guidance. • Read the download on the ontariocolleges.ca site • Come to the help sessions on December 9th, 10th, and 11th in room 402 at 11:30.

Pathway #4 University • Need a minimum of six 4U or 4M courses • English 4U • Specific courses and minimum average are required for admission – check prerequisites and averages on electronicinfo • If program wants a personal profile or essay with your application? – do it!! • Questions? Meet with your guidance counsellor

University Application Info • Deadline: January 14, 2015 • Apply online at the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre www.ouac.on.ca • $140 for 3 choices, $47 for each additional choice **To apply out of province, contact the desired university directly to get application directions and address for Guidance to send transcripts

  17. Applying to University • Be proactive! • Watch application tutorial on ouac.ca website • Get step-by-step help sheets from guidance (available after this session) • Attend university visits • Come to the lunch time application help sessions Dec 9th, 10th, 11th-Room 402 at 11:30

Important for students applying to college or university!!! • GEDSB has new student information system. • We want to ensure that your information gets transferred to OCAS and OUAC • College bound students -once you have applied, please come to guidance and sign the sheet indicated that you have applied • University bound students – when you return in January, check your biographic data, any gr 11 or 12 marks, and that the correct sem1 and sem2 courses are present. • If not, see Mrs. Schott in guidance ASAP

  19. Planning to Return to BCI? • Purpose – Use the year to plan to make a good decision. • Summer school? Take in the summer between 12 and 12+ • February -Career Cruising -choose 6 courses -we don’t know which semester each class will happen • need 3 courses a semester to be considered fulltime • If decide in June not returning…let us know!

  20. Show me the Money!!! Graduating Students • Alumni Awards • Commencement Awards All students planning on continuing to post-secondary education • OSAP • Entrance Scholarships • Community Scholarships/Bursaries

BCI Alumni Association Scholarships • Available to ALL full-time students in their graduating year • Students must be registered in six seniorcourses in their graduating year to be eligible for the award(s). • Students enrolled in French Immersion and Laurier may include program specific courses that were offered in Year 3 in their best six subjects.

  22. BCI Alumni Association Scholarships • based on the average of the best 6 subjects taken in their graduating year. • any level – U, C or O! • Not a competition. Anyone who applies and had the marks, gets the money • 80-84.5% =$150 • 85-89.9% =$250 + certificate • 90+% = $500 + certificate • Applications –available at grad meeting in April

BCI Alumni Association Scholarships • Application deadline in June • Mail your application to the address supplied on the application – do not hand into Guidance!! • Awards given at Commencement in October. • Only 37 students applied last year!! • A rep from the Alumni will be here at the April 28th Grad meeting to answer any questions you may have

  24. BCI Commencement Awards • 15 Commencement Awards available for graduating students • Check criteria • Apply in writing – Explain why you are the best candidate for the awards. • Applications due in June • Only about 30 students applied last year…

  26. Community Scholarships • Under Guidance on school website –see Scholarship Table • Updated regularly - check often • Deadlines throughout the year • Hard copy of applications available (while supplies last) in Guidance • Mr. Spivak is the counsellor in charge of scholarship information
