  2. Ecosystem: a community of living organisms Biome: an ecological community of plants and animals extending over a large area. Western Canada is made up of a number of large, distinct biomes. Natural Environment

  3. Made up mostly of coniferous trees Not very fertile soil (podzol) Home to deer, moose, bears, wolves, and many species of birds etc. Boreal Forest

  4. Area between dry prairie grasslands and coniferous forests regions of the north. • Long grasses • Small stands of trees • Rich, black, fertile soil Parkland

  5. Vast area between Winnipeg and Calgary. Very Dry, able to support ranching and agriculture but not trees. Ideal for growing wheat and other grain crops. The prairie

  6. Variety of landforms: meadows, plateaus, and mountains. Many soil types able to support trees, wildlife, and other varieties of vegetation. The Interior mountain region

  7. This area is home to the Rain Forests of the Pacific Northwest. • High Precipitation • Similar soil and wildlife to that of the boreal forests. Coastal Forest
