  3. London 2012 - the reality • Europe’s largest regeneration project • £9.32 billion in facilities and regeneration projects • A 16,000 capacity Olympic Village transformed into homes after the Games • An Olympic venue in Herts.

  4. White Water Canoe Centre • New £30 million world class sports facility – and it’s staying! • Jobs - construction, facility management, support services • Increased tourism • Volunteering • School / college projects • Leisure activities from 2011.

  6. Scale of the Games • 25,000 people employed in the Park • Up to 800,000 people using public transport each day • 70,000 volunteers • 23,000 competitors, 299 gold medals to be won • 7.7 million tickets.

Countdown to 2012 • 2008 - 2011: Olympic and Paralympic venues are constructed • 2009 - 2012: Procurement opportunities announced • 2010: Recruitment for volunteers begins • 2011: Tickets for Olympic and Paralympic Games go on sale • 2011: Sporting events staged to test new venues • 27 July 2012: Olympic Games Opening Ceremony • 29 August 2012: Paralympic Games Opening Ceremony.

  15. What you can do now • Nominate a London 2012 champion in your school - staff, governors, students • Encourage young people to become 2012 ambassadors • Make contact with our Young People sub group.

  16. What you can do now • Link to parents / local communities and get them involved • Twin your school with an Olympic country • Support talented young athletes.

  17. What you can do now • Get creative - give existing events a London 2012 theme • Celebrate key dates - 24 – 26 Jul, 27 Jul, 20 Dec • Tell us about your plans so we can publicise them.
