  2. Why be Concerned? • This can impact you, or those around you! • If your high school teachers inflate your grades and you graduate with an outstanding GPA, when you want to go to college you are most likely in trouble. • Grade inflation makes students believe they are smarter and more prepared for the real world and college than they really are. • When they go to college and take the entrance exams and don’t pass them they’ll be forced to take remedial courses just so they can catch up and take the courses they actually need. • This costs the students time and money! It can impact your future, so be aware!

  3. Problem • The problem is high schools are inflating grades, giving students higher grades than they deserve. So your GPA doesn’t reflect what you know and isn’t effective if you go to a different school with different standards, or when you want to further your education in college.

  4. Factors These are the factors that are in involved in why this problem was created: • According to the article “To Stop Grade Inflation, Just Stop Inflating Grades”, written by: Allison Friederichs: teachers are in denial; that different teachers are doing it, not them. • From the article “A History of College Grade Inflation” by: Catherine Rampell; teachers want to be liked by the students, and they want to have good reviews. • From personal experience I’ve noticed teachers being bias towards students because of how they behave- Inconsistency.

  5. Other Factors • Another problem which is discussed in “A History of College Grade Inflation” and in “Grade Inflation; Education Degradation” is lazy students- not studying, and still wanting good grades. Or not striving to do better because they feel A’s are easy to achieve. • According to “To Stop Grade Inflation, Just Stop Inflating Grades”; 92% of professors believe that they are deflating grades. • A problem discussed in the online article: “Grade Inflation; Education Degradation” by: Walter Braschis society believing that the student are superior, peoples egos • Different research from various colleges from “A History of College Grade Inflation” show that teachers are looking out for the school’s reputation, if it’s a prestigious private school they want to have greater GPA averages than other schools.

  6. Solutions Due to grade inflations and deflations in high schools, these are the possible solutions to address this problem. • Consistency is the answer! • Teachers must separate the students behavior/likeability and their academic performance. • Every High School across the Nation using the four point scale. • 90% Based on grades of assessments-almost all the weight; other 10% on projects or classwork
