  1. News on time calibration Collaboration Meeting CERN, 7-10 Feb 2011 Agustín Sánchez Losa IFIC (CSIC – Universitat de València)

  2. Outline • Reminder of the time calibration • The last time calibrations performed • Intraline calibration: T0s • new T0s after reconnection of lines 6 and 9 and HV tuning updated (03/11/2010) • Interline calibration: Time offsets • Period: runs from 01/09/2009 to 02/11/2009 • Period: runs from 11/12/2009 to 08/03/2010 (12/07/2010) • To-Do List Agustín Sánchez Losa – CERN Collaboration Meeting

  3. Reminder of the time calibration F 10 F 9 • Time calibration recipe: • Flash various OMs at the same time by an OB • Plot the distribution of hit arrival times for each ARS • Fit such distribution with a Gauss@Exponential function • Determine Tpeak , the time of the function peak • Plot Tpeakvs distance • Deviations from the straight line fit will be used as corrections to the T0s F 8 F 7 F 6 F 5 F 4 F 3 F 2 Agustín Sánchez Losa – CERN Collaboration Meeting F 1

  4. Reminder of the time calibration Intraline calibration • T0 in thesame line • LED OB • Early-photonregion LED Interline calibration LED • time offsets between lines • Laser OB • Photo-electronlevelregion Laser Agustín Sánchez Losa – CERN Collaboration Meeting

  5. Reminder of the time calibration • Intraline • T0s • Scheme of theautomaticcalibration: • Humaninterventiononlyneeded at theend of theprocesstocheckthecalibration output, helpedby a programwhichmanagesthecorrectionstoapply • runfile & calibration (time & alignment) • Fill time OB-OM histograms • Tpeak • Interline • Time offsets • Processingrun • Autobinning Agustín Sánchez Losa – CERN Collaboration Meeting

  6. Reminder of the time calibration • Two new tables of T0s have been released: • (#6) including offsets until March'10: offsets should be studied after • (#8) now has a T0s table for after the HV tuning updated with the dark room values recalibrated NEW #1 #2 #3 #4 #5 #6 #7 #8 5 Lines 10 Lines 12 Lines HV L10-L12+offsets HV L6-L9+HV Agustín Sánchez Losa – CERN Collaboration Meeting

  7. Intraline(#8): new T0s after reconnection of lines 6 and 9 and HV tuning updated (03/11/2010) • Intraline calibration performed with: • 24 standard LED-OB calibration runs of 16/12/2010 • “2010:V6.5” online calibration: • ARS_T0_VERSION = 55415093 (the t0s to update, Nov'10, by Paco) • But ARS_TVC_VERSION = 57889518 (Last one, by Juan Pablo) • LED-OBs not available: L11F02, L11F21, L12F15 • Same list reported in Amsterdam'10 Agustín Sánchez Losa – CERN Collaboration Meeting

  8. Intraline(#8): new T0s after reconnection of lines 6 and 9 and HV tuning updated (03/11/2010) L09F21 LED-OB is a noisy OB: • the trigger in OB PMT is given by clock signal noise (thanks Paco and Ciro) • flash time is given ~75ns before it should • “time difference signal” shifted close to the end of the time window • Decided to add -75ns to the OB t0 for practical reasons MAX_TRIG_TH0 ~255mV → ADC ~186ch V (ch) ADC ~48ch (~75ns) time (ch) Agustín Sánchez Losa – CERN Collaboration Meeting

  9. Intraline(#8): new T0s after reconnection of lines 6 and 9 and HV tuning updated (03/11/2010) • Corrections summary: (Thanks to Paco, Ciro and Juande) • 466 ARSs couldn't be corrected (no data or dead channel) • 8 ARSs couldn't be corrected (not suitable for time calibration) • 1296 ARSs were corrected: • 1083 less than 1ns • 172 between 1ns and 2ns • 40 between 2ns and 5ns • 1 more than 5ns • And 76 ARSs are in a pair corrected more than 1ns: • 68 less than 2ns • 8 between 2ns and 5ns Agustín Sánchez Losa – CERN Collaboration Meeting

  16. #8 IntralineCorrections and Clock-Phases 41 out of 1296 have required corrections larger than 2ns Clockphases stable below 0.1ns Agustín Sánchez Losa – CERN Collaboration Meeting

  17. IntralineClock-Phases stored in the ARS_T0_VALUES • From now on the CLOCK_PHASE values stored in the T0s table refer to L1F0. • That makes easier to track the T0s changes (CLOCK_PHASE and the intrinsic OM time offset separately). T0 = Offset + Clock-Phase Agustín Sánchez Losa – CERN Collaboration Meeting

  19. Interline • Two new sets of line offsets computed: • (#4B): 10 standard Laser-OB calibration runs from 01/09/2009 to 02/11/2009 (as a cross-check) • (#6): 13 standard Laser-OB calibration runs from 11/12/2009 to 08/03/2010 (in a first moment until 12/07/2010 with 26 runes) • First 3 runs using version 0.993 of alignment (thanks Andreas). Rest with version 0.994. • From March'10 to July'10 the Laser shows a strange behavior #4B #6 L9 L6 L10 L9 L12 L1 L2 L3 L4 L5 L6 L7 L8 L9 L10 L11 L12 Agustín Sánchez Losa – CERN Collaboration Meeting

  22. Interline #4 #4B #6 Interlineoffsetscomputedforseveralperiodscomparisons. Set (#4) was presented in Paris'10 (here added a +0.5ns shift). There is one year of difference between (#4) and (#4B). Between (#4B) and (#6) it was the reconnection of lines 10 and 12. Agustín Sánchez Losa – CERN Collaboration Meeting

  23. Interline • After March'10 some Laser Beacon calibration runs look not suitable for time calibration • Other shows important variations in the line offsets • There are no warranties that the common time reference given by the Laser Beacon is maintained along all the period • Further investigations should be done in order to clarify the offsets in Spring'10 and the cause #6 L6 L9 L1 L2 L3 L4 L5 L6 L7 L8 L9 L10 L11 L12 Agustín Sánchez Losa – CERN Collaboration Meeting

  25. To-Do List • Intraline calibration: • Recompute T0s of 2010 with the updated TVCs in order to “complete 2010” • Recompute old T0s with the updated TVCs and study the impact of using the updated ones or not • Perform T0s calibrations for G/2 and G/4 (G/8 LED-OB calibration runs not available) • Study unstable PMTs since HV tuning in Summer'10 • Research & Improvements in intraline calibration: Calibrate the first floors of each line, study the impact of a calibration with independent sections, etc. • Interline calibration: • Study and compute time offsets after March'10 in order to “complete 2010” • Obtain time offsets for other periods • Research & Improvements in interline calibration: Study time offsets evolution along long periods, use LED-Beacons as a standard cross-check for the time offsets, etc. • Start to use the Nanobeacons on L9F1 for time calibration Agustín Sánchez Losa – CERN Collaboration Meeting
