  2. What Can Be Done !! • Install rain barrels/cisterns at home and businesses to slow run off. • Plant to improve tree canopy. Tree canopy can slow run off. (trees compensate about 10% for impervious surfaces) • Don’t over fertilize lawns (Reduce nitrate & phosphate run off) • Join Arl. Co. “adopt a street and storm sewer health” program. • Consider rain garden in yard or local park. • Explore green streets as part of neighborhood conservation. • Explore porous driveways. • Control dog waste (keep on leash) Clean up waste in yards. (Pet waste run off--No. 1 source of e coli in Arlington streams) • Organize a program in your neighborhood civic organization with Environmental Affairs • Support better base line information & additional monitoring. Limited monitoring of e coli in streams. Need monitoring of phosphates and nitrate levels and sources (Most pollution from unknown “non specific sources) (Reason for resolution-March 2012)
