  2. Location • Illinois, Southwestern Indiana, Missouri, & Tennessee. • North American plates. • Evansville, Springfield, St. Louis, Memphis.

  3. Divergent Plates began to actively pull apart in Wabash Valley region. Plates moving about 1-2 millimeters per year.

  4. Features • Severe earthquakes • Could cause floods • Many cities would be affected.

  5. Major Tectonic Events • 2002- Magnitude 4.6 • Evensville Indiana 2008- Magnitude 504 West salem, Illinois 6 hour aftershock

  6. Residents should be warned and prepared for the after effects. • It is not known when it will strike. • 7.3 earthquake
