Number of Credits to Graduate Standard Diploma: 22 Credits • 4 Credits of English (9, 10, 11, and 12) • 3 Credits of Math (Algebra I Pt I, Algebra I Pt II, Algebra I, Geometry and higher) • 3 Credits of Science (i.e. E. Science, Biology, Chemistry) • 3 Credits of Social Science (World History/Geography, US & VA History, and US & VA Government) • 1 Credit of Fine or Practical Art • 2 Credits of Health & PE • 6 Electives (2 of which must be sequential)

Number of Credits to Graduate Advanced Studies Diploma- 24 Credits • 4 Credits of English (9, 10, 11, & 12) • 4 Credits of Math (Alg I Pt I, Alg I, Geometry, Alg II and/or one higher) • 4 Credits of Science (i.e. E. Science, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics) • 4 Credits of Social Science (W. History II, W. Geography, U.S. & VA History, U.S. & VA Government) • 3 Credits of a Foreign Language or 2 years of 2 different languages) • 1 Credit of Fine or Practical Art • 2 Credits of P.E. • 1-2 Electives

  9. SOL Requirements Standard: English Reading and Writing, 1 Math, 1 Science, 1 Social Studies, and one additional in any core course for a total of 6. Advanced: English Reading and Writing, 2 Math, 2 Science, 2 Social Studies, and 1 additional in any core area for a total of 9.

  10. College Application Procedure • It is your responsibility to check the admission requirements for each college. Senior grades are important! Class Rank and GPA are computed during the first part of October, at the end of the first semester and at the end of the year. At the end of the first term, your new GPA and Class Ranking are sent to all of the colleges to which you have applied. • Colleges prefer if you apply online. However, you can request an application from the colleges that you are interested in. • Apply to at least 3-6 colleges. • It is your responsibility to submit the application directly to the college or university.

  11. College Application Procedures (cont.) • Transcript request forms may be found in the Counseling office. After first semester transcripts will be sent electronically through NavianceRequest forms will be used for this method as well and will be found in Counseling. • Print all information and give necessary forms to your counselor. For example, include the Secondary School Report with your transcript request form, envelope, and two stamps. • Osbourn Park sends out three free transcripts. After that, each additional transcript will cost $5.00. These funds will be collected in June.

College Application Procedure (Cont.) • Please allow 10 school days for the school’s portion to be processed by your counselor. • If there is a deadline that says received by, you must allow an additional 5-7 days for the postal service to deliver the mail. • It is your responsibility to obtain teacher recommendations. • Please allow teachers 5-10 school days to write your letter. It is helpful if you give them a resume when requesting your letter.

  13. Calendar of Events • College Fair will be hosted by Stonewall Jackson High School on September 30, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. and Forest Park High School on October 22, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. • The Financial Aid workshop is December 5, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium • Awards Program- June 2014 • ASVAB Testing- November 8th and March • Deadline for Transcript Requests- DECEMBER 6, 2013 if application is due on January 1, 2014. • NCAA Clearinghouse- Must register with the NCAA in order to be eligible to play collegiate sports.

Financial Aide • The area of financial aide is broad in scope and also a very important aspect of the total college admission process. • There are “musts” that should be part of the seniors’ (and parents’) plan • 1. Attend financial aide information sessions. • 2. As one applies for admission, inquire about financial aid procedures at each college • 3. Plan to enter the process in December (2012) so that you are ready to file in January 2013. • 4. Make us of scholarship websites and opportunities.
