Characteristics • Double-layer body wall • Both layers have muscular bases • Use gastrovascular cavity as skeleton--hydrostatic skeleton • Cnematocysts--cnematoblast--stinging cells • Mesoglea--non-cellular layer • Either polyp or medusae shaped • Alternation of generations--hydroid to a medusoid to a hydroid individual. Exception is the anthozoa • Planula larvae
