Malay Superintendents, WWII • During the Japanese occupation, the British officers and medical doctors had evacuated to Singapore • Many British doctors were interned at Changi Prison, where many died; some escaped to Malaya disguised as Malay women with scarves, and returned to England • Malay doctors replaced the British doctors as Superintendents – eg Leper Settlement at Sg Buloh The Early Malay Doctors (TEMD)
