  1. “Exploring Materials Science” Connecticut Public Television’s Family Science Expo is one of Connecticut’s most exciting science events for K-8th grade students. CRISP took advantage of this wonderful opportunity to educate over 8,000 students and over 200 elementary and middle school teachers with their “Exploring Materials Science” booth on April 27-28th, 2006. The top two school districts attending have a 45-95% enrollment of underrepresented minorities. The theme for the CRISP booth was “Be a Materials Detective”. Students examined the evidence (the materials), uncovered the clues (the material properties), and then solved the case (the material used in products). The goal for the exhibit was to introduce students to materials science by showing the connection between a material, its properties, and its final use.
