  4. Learning Plan

  5. Curriculum Literacy • For writing, we will be focusing on writing for a specific audience and improving the student’s understanding of a variety of text types, including narratives, recounts, information reports and factual texts and expositions. • Spelling will be taught four days a week. This will be in the form of guided spelling lessons and independent spelling activities. We will be using the spelling program, ‘Ants in The Apple’. • It focuses on regular words which include common digraphs & their extensions • There are Irregular words which include long vowels, alternate digraph sounds & very irregular words (like tricky words) • Looks at explicitly teaching spelling rules. • Rather than memorising a list of words it looks at how words work through rules & digraphs • Handwriting is taught twice a week and students will be working through guided lessons. • Reading groups will be on 4 days a week and will cover comprehension activities, computer activities and oral reading. Please encourage your children to read daily for 15-20 minutes at home using their home readers which went home this week.

  6. Curriculum Mathematics • The maths curriculum will be covered on a daily basis utilising both teacher directed activities, worksheets, assessments and maths games Maths Programs: Count Me in Too • Numeracy program that caters for all ability groups. • Children are ability grouped according to the numeracy continuum. • A typical lesson contains a strand focus beginning with a warm up game, moving into ability groups playing a game related to the strand, lesson conclusion & recording in their books. Mathletics • A computer program that has activities based on all maths strands. • Your child will come home with a username & password.

  7. HSIE • Our unit for Term 1 will be ‘The way we were’ • Science and Technology • Our unit for Term 1 will be ‘Let’s Communicate’ taught by Mrs Searle • PDHPE • Our units for Term 1 are ‘On the Go’ and ‘Building my Network’ – an anti-bullying unit.

  8. Interviews and Reports • Term 1 – Parent/Teacher interview • Term 2 – Student Reports • Term 3 – Three way conference • Term 4 – Student Reports

  9. Reward System • All children in infants receive green merit awards for positive behaviour & work. • The school merit system is as follows: 5 green merits = 1 white merit 5 white merits = 1 bronze merit 5 bronze merits = 1 silver merit 5 silver merits = 1 gold award • As your child collects 5 merits bring them in & I will trade them for you.

  10. Homework • Homework consists of: • Spelling. • Each student will receive a Homework contract at the beginning of the week, which will set out the tasks they are to complete each week. • News topics as set out at the beginning of the term. • Home reading • Homework is due on Friday.

  11. Classroom Organisation • Library day – Thursday • Whole school sport – Friday • Wednesday with Mrs Searle and Music with Mrs Yeo on Monday • If your child is absent from school, you are legally required to supply a reason in the form of a note. If your child does not bring in an absent note 5 days after their return to school, a reminder will be sent home requesting you provide a reason for the absence. • Munch and Crunch will again take place at 10:30 every morning during class. Please ensure your child brings at least one piece of fruit/vegetable everyday and water to drink.

  12. Important Dates • Our Year 2/3 Camp this year is at school in Week 8 • School Photos – 4th March • Parent/Teacher Interviews – 8th April • Easter Hat Parade – 10th April • Our Cross Country Carnival – 11th April.

Quick questions or notes can be easily answered but for a longer chat, please ensure that you organise a mutually convenient time for an appointment. Alternatively, we can be contacted via the school phone number. • Please make use of the school website as it covers all current and future school events, newsletters and photos of school activities. • Birthdays – If you would like to send a treat to school for your child’s birthday, please try to send cupcakes as they are easier for us to handle! • Thank you for attending today and we look forward to spending a great year working with your children.
