  1. Cell Organelles

  2. Centrioles A pair of small cylindrical structure Composed of microtubules Involved in the separation of chromosomes during cell division in animal cells and protists Not found in plant cell

  3. Chloroplast Definition Image • Found in some plant cells (green organelle) • Photosynthesis takes place • Composed of many folded layers of membrane

  4. Cytoplasm • the contents of a cell • It is more than 90% water • Contain ions, salts enzymes, food molecule and other organelles other than the nucleus.

  5. Cytosol • The fluid component of cytoplasm • In which organelles are located

  6. Endoplasmic Reticulum Image • It is where, where most reactions takes place • The cell makes lipids and other chemicals, • it sometimes has ribosomes attached. • Involved with the production , processing, transport, and storage of materials with the cell

  7. Golgi Apparatus image • essential in packaging different products from the endoplasmic reticulum and the ribosomes into their final form.

  8. Lysosomes Image • membrane- bound vesicles • Containing powerful enzymes that breakdown debris and foreign material • Found in most animal cell

  9. Mitochondria Image • Composed of many unfolded layers of membrane • Involved in the energy transformation that release energy

  10. Nucleus Image • Large organelle • The nucleus is the control centre of the cell • dictates what all of the other organelles do. • The nucleus also stores the DNA.

  11. Image PlasmaMembrane • Encloses the cytoplasm in all cells • Controls the movement of substances into and out of the cell • Responsible for recognition, adhesion and chemical communication between cells

  12. Plastids • Found only in plant cells • Which develop from simple organelles called proplast • Plastids include chloroplast, amyloplasts & chromplast(contain colour pigments)

  13. Image Ribosomes • The nucleus is the control centre of the cell • dictates what all of the other organelles do. • The nucleus also stores the DNA Definition

  14. Tonoplast Image • Vacuole membrane in plant cells • Regulates the movement of substances into and out of the vacuole.

  15. Vacuole • found in most cells • Plant cells: have large fluid filled vacuole • Containing cell sap which support physical support through turgidity and storage • In other cells vacuole maybe involved in intracellular digestion or water balance

  16. Vesicles • Membrane –bound organelles • Often associated with transport in cell

  17. Cell wall • Found only in PLANT cells • Gives support to the cell • Is a second layer or “fence” like the cell membrane.

  18. Cytoskeleton Location: All cells Description: Made of microtubules - microfilaments Function: Strengthen cell & maintains the shape Moves organelles within the cell By Shekofa Jafari 11C
