  3. Uses of Ethanol • A solvent • As fuel • In the beverage industry

  4. A solvent • Ethanol has low toxicity, volatility and antiseptic properties & can dissolve non-polar substances. • Used in : -Pharmaceutical Industry -Cosmetic Industry.

  5. As Fuel • Fuel additive • Higher octane rating than gasoline; octane enhancer. • Burns cleaner than gasoline and diesel due to complete combustion.

  6. Beverage Industry • Alcohol concentration specified in proof or in percent alcohol by volume (ABV) • The ratio of the “proof” measurement to the ABV is roughly 2:1 (70 proof= 35% ABV)
