  2. United Way helps people. Yes, lots of organizations help people.But United Way is different.While most agencies focus on one issue, United Way focuses on the issues of the entire community.

  3. Meet Rita. Ritaattends a local senior center. Rita is one of9,000seniors who can stay in their homes because of United Way-funded programs providing health care, meals, transportation and more. Helping seniors remain independent is one of the waysUnited Way helps people.

  4. But how do we get to the roots of our problems? United Way works to go beyond quick fixes to create real, lasting change. And that takes everyone, including YOU. With your help, we can get results together that no one can accomplish alone.

  5. How can you be sure your gift is well spent? When you give to the Community Care Fund, volunteers help make decisions about where your money goes.Plus,United Way multiplies your gift.It is leveraged with grants and gifts-in-kind so every $1 is worth $1.55 of services in the community.

  6. What kind of services? United Way serves a wide variety of needsin six issue areas: Families & Neighborhoods Health Self Sufficiency Seniors Young Children Youth

  7. So how are we doing? • For example, in the area of YOUTH, this year United Way is: • Investing $4.5 million in local • youth programs • Partnering to place an additional • 1,000 mentors in local schools • Providing financial assistance for • youth to attend after-school • programs
