Indoor aerosol behaviour

This study examines the behavior of indoor aerosols, identifying crucial factors such as infiltration, deposition, and indoor sources that impact aerosol concentration. Measurements were conducted using sophisticated instruments including NanoSMPS, SMPS, and APS in family houses and office settings in Norway and Italy over specific periods. Findings indicate that indoor aerosol concentrations can vary significantly compared to outdoor levels. The research emphasizes the importance of modeling and monitoring indoor air quality for health implications, particularly regarding ultrafine and coarse particles.

  8. Conclusions • Indoor aerosol concentration depends on • infiltration • deposition • indoor sources • Compared to outdoor aerosol concentrations the indoor concentrations can be • higher • lower

  9. Conclusions - continuation • Rate of deposition on internal surfaces is • higher for ultrafine and coarse particles • lower for the accumulation mode • Model assuming the ideal mixing in the room describes well the behaviour of the indoor aerosol
