MCPS Background • One “image” for all computers • In early 2000’s, special education classrooms were treated separately • Now a model of collaboration where special ed funds are blended with technology budget to provide access to special software at all schools
Accessible Technology • Limited number of licenses at each school • Certain software provided on the basis of special education programming • Gradual negotiation of contracts to provide access to software on ALL computers • Gradual adoption of mainstream tools to replace “special” software
Availability • If technology tools and software are not “right there” they will not be integrated into classroom instruction
Training • Training will increase technology use on the part of motivated teachers • The extent of integration into quality teaching will depend on the quality of the teaching
