Budget Planning Process • Planning in 2014-15 for 2015 and beyond. • Strategic Planning and Finance Committee – on point. • $2.2M championships budget overage (2011-14). • Two surveys (2013 and 2014). • Councils approved five championships cost saving recommendations for 2014-15. • Membership-wide education this fall and • discussion at 2015 Convention Issues Forum. • Reserve policy change. 3

DI Governance Restructuring • Focus. • Greater autonomy for “Big 5” conferences (ACC, Big10, PAC12, BIG12 , SEC). • Student-athlete issues (e.g., cost of attendance; support during and after enrollment; agents). • Ability of non-Big 5 conferences to adopt same legislation. • Other issues (e.g., interpretations, enforcement, waivers). • Process. • August 2014 – adoption by Division I Board. • October 2014 – autonomy group develop proposed legislation. • 2015 Convention – membership vote on legislation. • Impact on Division III. 4

  5. Convention Legislation • Fifteen Proposals: • Six membership proposals. • Includes one co-sponsored by Presidents Council. • Nine governance sponsored. • IPOPL released by August 15th. • SPOPL released by September 23rd. • Official Notice – November 15. • Convention vote – January 2015. 5

Key Convention Proposals • Co-Sponsored: • Decrease traditional segment contest and dates of competition by up to 10 percent. • Membership: • Football spring non-traditional season. • Governance: • Nullification process. • Recruiting Working Group. • Four proposals. • Sand Volleyball Championship. 6

Championship Updates Women’s Basketball Joint Championship • 2016 – Approved in concept for 35th anniversary celebration (Indianapolis). • Comparable experience with men’s 75th anniversary celebration (2013) and opportunity for national exposure. • Anticipated game day: April 4, 2016 (preliminary round format to be determined). • Ongoing discussion to determine logistics, including competition venue, schedule and cost. 7

Championship Updates In-Region Competition • Changes for 2014-15. • Years 1 and 2 provisional/reclassifying institutions CAN count as an in-region opponent in the calculation (assuming at least one of the in-region definitions is met). • For spring NCAA championships, competition against out-of-region opponents over one official vacation period (e.g., spring break) may be exempted from the calculation. 8

  12. ADR Working Group • Examining the current and potential engagement and role of ADRs at the institutional, conference and national levels. • Develop best practices (June 2015). • Provide resources and opportunities for ADRs to be more engaged in the governance process (2015-16). 12

  13. 360 Proof • Partnership with NASPA. • Free, evidenced-based, high-risk alcohol use prevention web program for student-athletes and non-athletes. • Timeline. • Summer 2014 – pilot evaluation and program refinement. • Fall 2014 – rollout to schools that participated in the pilot. • January 2015 – Division-wide rollout. • Future programs. 13

Conference Rules Seminar • 2015 – York, PA. • Timeline. • September 2014: Application for 2016 and 2017 Conference Rules Seminars (CRS) available. • February 2015: Membership Committee reviews and makes recommendation to Management Council. • May 2015: Announcement of 2016 and 2017 CRS location. • Key Application Requirements. • Minimums. • Location. 15

  16. Committee Training Videos • Division III staff initiative. • Created a staff working group. • One-hour educational videos. • Committee Liaisons. (August 2014) • Committee Members. (August 2015) • Outcome is to provide better education and committee experience. 16

Financial Aid Resource • Developed by the NCAA Division III Financial Aid Committee. • Intended to facilitate communication across all campus constituencies (e.g., director of athletics, director of financial aid, development office, admissions office and athletics compliance). • Encourage regularly scheduled conversations among these campus constituents to ensure compliance with NCAA Division III Bylaw 15.  17

Diversity and Inclusion • Strategic Matching Alliance and Ethnic Minority and Women Internship Grants. • Diversity Spotlight Initiative. • Collaboration with Division III Commissioners and Office of Inclusion.  • Research study comparing student-athlete diversity to general campus population. 18
