  10. Safety Legislation Package 2014 Convention Vote • Designated team physician; • Catastrophic sport injury reporting; • Coach sport safety training; and • Certification for strength & conditioning coaches. 10

Reduced Drug Penalty 2014 Convention Vote • December 2010 – CSMAS holds a Marijuana Summit. • December 2012 – CSMAS proposes legislation. • Marijuana not a performance enhancer. • Do not apply same penalty as applied to performance enhancement. Discourage “drop outs.” • Positive street drug test = withheld from next 50% of season of competition versus current 365 days and loss of season. 11

  17. 2014 Legislation • Membership proposals: field hockey scrimmage and football helmets during the spring season. • Co-sponsored proposal: ice hockey first date and scrimmage opportunity. • Governance key proposals: elimination of scouting at exhibition games; sports safety package; reduction in drug testing for street drugs; triathlon – emerging sport; women’s rugby. 17

Championships Selection Criteria Emphasis on In-Region Competition • Team Sports – minimum in-region requirement increased from 50 to 70 percent. • Tennis– minimum in-region requirement increased from 25 percent to 50 percent. • Golf– current 25 percent minimum in-region requirement maintained. • Effective 2013-14 18

  19. In-Region Competition • Sport region. • Geographical region – (Constitution 4.13.1.1). • 500-mile radius (Effective 2014-15). • Conference members. 19

  20. In-Region Competition • Primary Criteria. All contests against Division III opponents. • Secondary Criteria. All contests against opponents from other classifications (Division I, Division II, NAIA, provisional members). • Effective 2013-14 20

  21. Selection Criteria Effective 2013-14 • Results Versus Ranked Opponents. The criterion will be based on results versus ranked Division III teams as established by rankings at the time of selection. The change replaces the criterion that once a team is ranked during the season, it is always considered ranked. 21
