  1. English as a Second Language Program Placement Test In this presentation, you will learn about the English language placement test.

  2. Placement test What is the placement test? The English language placement test is a group of exercises that help us determine if you are ready to enroll full-time in a mainstream program or if you need to register for one or more ESL class. The test also helps us decide in which level of ESL each student should start.

  3. Placement test • Who must take the placement test? • Almost all international students who are new to North Park University are required to take the entire placement test. We exempt students who meet certain conditions: • citizens of the UK, New Zealand, Australia, and English-speaking parts of Canada; • students who have earned a bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. or Canadian university; • students who have completed 60 credits at an accredited U.S. or Canadian university and have earned a grade of B or better in an English composition course. • If you are required to take the placement test but fail to do so, you will be blocked from registering for courses.

  4. Placement test • What is the placement test? • The test has five parts: • listening • speaking • reading and vocabulary • writing • grammar • The entire test takes three hours. It is given on the Thursday morning before the start of the fall and spring semesters.

  10. Placement test Results The day after the placement test, the names of all students will be posted on the door of the ESL Office: These students must attend a mandatory ESL orientation session on Friday morning. The decision made on the basis of the placement test is final.
