STUDENT BEHAVIORS • Be here • Be ready to learn when class begins. • Be kind • Speak in a normal tone of voice, and listen attentively. • Be Respectful • Correct problems quickly and peacefully before they escalate. • Be safe • Use materials responsibly and use good judgment. • Be Productive • Have materials ready and know due dates. • Turn your work in on time and always do your best.

  3. SHOW RESPECT • Value Yourself • Be honest and ethical, and practice strong moral values. • Treat all members of the school community and all visitors with politeness and respect. • Honor the ideas and opinions of others. • Offer to help. • Be responsible with property and belongings.

  4. RESPONSIBILITY FOR CLASS • Bring notebook, planner, and appropriate writing tools to class. • Know due dates, and submit all coursework on time. • All assignments are posted on the bulletin board and on the class website.

  5. MAKE UP WORK • When you return from an absence, check the “While You Were Out” file to see if anything was done that is not on your printout. Otherwise, follow your printout! • Check for any activities. For example, problem of the weeks, partner activities, or additional assignments. • Place any make-up work in the Make-Up Work tray on my desk. DO NOT HAND THE WORK TO THE TEACHER!!!!!!!

  6. When entering the room, do so quietly. Sharpen your pencil, have a seat and begin working on bellwork. Turn your paper face down when finished and remain silent. ENTERING THE ROOM

ASKING OR ANSWERING A QUESTION • Raise your hand and wait for the teacher to call on you. • Do not blurt out an answer or question without first raising your hand and waiting for the acknowledgement. • When someone is called upon, remain silent, give the person called upon time to think and answer.

  8. VISITORS OR TELEPHONE INTERRUPTIONS • Freeze. Remain silent. • If you are out of your seat, return at once without talking. • Continue working at your seat silently until the teacher has returned to the front of the room.

  9. HOMEWORK AVERAGE • Homework will be checked daily using the rubric. These will be turned in weekly to have your points added to the gradebook. • The rubric allows a total of 4 points for each assignment and a total of 20 points per week.

  10. You will have daily bellwork based on the previous night’s homework on the board when you walk in the room. No books may be used. Work must be included. Each problem will be graded for correctness, so be careful. • Individual help may be available before or after school. A set schedule will be available the third week of school. Also in the mornings, Mr. Smehyl can answer questions in the cafeteria. (He used to be a math teacher) • If you have a problem with homework it is your responsibility to ask questions before you come to class.

The individual can earn coupons for the following: complete an incomplete assignment or upgrade a hw quiz upgrade an activity (usually the problem of the week) correct a test before the next test is given The class can earn the following coupons by following the procedures correctly: partner test open book test replacement test SPECIAL BONUSES

  12. MORE WAYS TO EARN EXTRA POINTS • Bring something that shows how math is used everyday i.e. newspaper clipping, magazine article, etc. • 100 points as a test grade for perfect attendance. For each absence or pair of unexcused tardies, 5 points will be deducted from the 100 points. • 100 points as an activity grade for no pass out of class.

WONDERING ABOUT YOUR GRADE • You can keep up with your grade very easily—just log on to Pinnacle Viewer at the HGMS website. • Enter your student ID number, and password (birthday). • You will be able to see what is missing– blank or Z. • You can check out each individual average and your overall average. No more waiting for the teacher to post it.

HOW YOUR GRADES ARE AVERAGED • I use a weighted system for grading purposes. • For Algebra I Honors and Pre-Algebra • Activities/Bellwork Count 10% • Homework counts 20% • Quizzes count 30% • Tests count 40% • Mid-term and Final Exams count 20% of grade (Algebra I only) • For 6th Grade Math class • Bellwork counts 15% • Homework counts 20% • Quizzes count 30% • Tests count 35%
