  2. Migration • A Monarch butterfly migrates the longest out of all migrating animals. • Monarch butterflies travel through Mexico, USA, and Canada. • Scientists think Monarchs have been migrating for thousands of years.

  3. Live • In winter monarch butterflies live in the Oyamel forest of Mexico. • In Mexico monarch butterflies can cover a lot of trees. • There is enough monarch butterflies to cover 11 football fields.

  4. Danger • Praying mantis, fire ants, orioles, and spiders eat butterflies. • Predators kill 15% of butterflies in Mexico every year. • A rainstorm with low temperatures killed 250 million monarchs in Mexico. • Butterflies can not fly when the temperatures get too low because they could die.

  5. Life Cycle • The butterfly lays the egg. • Soon, the butterfly dies. • The caterpillar hatches and eats the egg shell. • The caterpillar eats and turns into a chrysalis. • Then the butterfly comes out of chrysalis and the cycle starts over.
