Summary of CANSA’s concern with oils • Total fat has increased • Saturated fat has increased • Trans fat has increased • Omega-6 has increased • Omega-3 has decreased • Ratio of omega-6/omega-3 has increased • Monosaturated has decreased • Over the past 100 years there have been some pretty big changes in the fats consumed by humans and this has impacted on health in a big way – a negative way.

  19. Canola oil – Good or Bad? • On the 12 th July 2000 I received an e-mail condemning Canola oil. This e-mail made the following very serious allegations about Canola oil: • Canola comes from rapeseed which is so poisonous that even insects wont eat it. • Canola oil agglutinates red blood cells • Rape oil causes blindness

  20. Attack on Canola Oil cont. • Canola oil causes emphysema, anemia, constipation, irritability and blindness in animals • Rape oil fed to animals in England caused Mad Cow Disease • Rape oil is the source of chemical warfare agent mustard gas • Canola oil contains cyanide

Attack on canola Oil cont. • Canola glycosides depress the immune system • Alcohol in canola oil shuts down the immune system • Academia and Government continue to bamboozle the public with stories of “safe” science and cheap food through the use of poisons. • Used in Gulf War (Athalie Russell)

  22. What are we to make of this? • Mustard gas????????? Synthesis Bottle containing 'HD' (distilled sulphur mustard agent) used for testing/training purposes Sulfur mustard is the organic Compound described with the formula (ClCH2CH2)2S. In the Depretz method, mustard gas is synthesized by treating sulfurdichloride with ethylene: SCl2 + 2 C2H4 → (ClCH2CH2)2S

  28. Athalie Russell apologises • 16-09-2009 • Dear Dr Albrecht • I am appalled that the canola letter, which I wrote with such stupid innocence, is doing the rounds again TEN YEARS LATER. And with a fake job description and contact details for me! Who would do this? Why??? I am trying to get myself off Google because people are finding me there and I am being endlessly harassed (as I am sure you are). • I just want you to know that I have no connection with this fraud, am dismayed by it, and very much regret that someone malicious has resurrected it. • My sincere apologies. • Athalie

  29. Conclusion 1 • Canola oil is an excellent and healthy product that the public can use with confidence. CANSA endorses Canola oil because it has a good omega-6 to omega-3 ratio of 2 to 1 and a significant concentration (11-12%) of omega-3 fatty acid which is known to counteract inflammation which is now known to be associated with carcinogenesis (cancer forming process).

Conclusion 2 • The e-mail attack(s) on Canola oil since 2000 are devoid of any facts and border on insanity especially where it is claimed that deadly Mustard gas was made from Canola oil which also causes Mad Cow disease. There is absolutely no scientific evidence anywhere that Canola oil is in any way poisonous. It is not unreasonable to assume that these attacks are a form of industrial sabotage and the public is urged to delete these e-mails and not perpetuate them by sending them further. This nonsense must now come to and end.
