  1. In-class Exercise #5 Ethics in Management The University of Winnipeg

  2. Term Test Question #5 • As the protagonist in the case (“Nick Zane”) develop an action plan to address the situation in the specified case. • Be specific in terms of the sequence (order) of the actions you will take, what you will actually do, and if that involves communication with others, outline what you will actually say or write.

  3. Action Planning caveat • The only person whose actions you can control in any situation is yourself. • Therefore, provide a contingency plan for at least one likely response / reaction of someone who may not agree with your approach. • i.e. Don’t assume that other parties in the situation will do whatever is necessary to make your problem go away.

  4. Action Planning Criteria • Positive impact on the case situation both at the specific and at the systemic level. • Minimize the trade off among fundamental values and objectives that may be necessary. • Minimize “collateral damage” – avoidable negative consequences such as interpersonal friction, damaged reputations, loss of job or money, etc.

  5. Format Specifications Limit your response to two (2) wordprocessed pages (using MSWord), double-spaced in 12-point font with one inch margins on all four sides. At the top of the page (but not in a header) list the student numbers in ascending order (but not names) of all students involved.

  6. Submission Specifications Title the document ETH-ICE5 - followed by the student numbers (but not the names) in ascending order separated by commas, of all students involved. E-mail the document, using the entire document name as the subject line, as an attachment to ta4johnmelnyk@gmail.comby 4:00 p.m. Monday, October 8) Once that’s done, this class is over for you!

  7. Objectives for the Action Plan • Determine the truth of what Carol told me • Minimize risk to the company from this matter • Maintain my personal integrity and reputation • As a good board member • As a trustworthy consultant to my client • Minimize collateral damage to the company’s and others’ reputation and future prospects
