  3.  Your task • Watch the clip from ‘Battlefield Britain’ and answer the questions provided.

  4.  Your task – Causes of Civil War Produce a ‘Match of the Day’ style report explaining the key events of the Battle of Newbury (1644) and the reasons for the Royalists’ success and the things the Parliamentarians would have to do to succeed in future battles. Cromwell, 1599-1658 Charles I, 1625-49

  6.  Discussion task By 1645, following the battle of Naseby the tide had turned for the Parliamentarians and Cromwell’s New Model Army eventually crushed Charles’ forces. Charles was arrested and put on trial at Westminster Hall. The rest is history! So why did the Parliamentarians win? Can you think of factors that helped them do so, e.g. individuals, tactics, money etc.

  7.  Extension task • Conduct some research into Prince Rupert, the leader of the Royalist cavalry. Compare his skills with those of Cromwell.
