  3. Conclusions • Significant Progress in vulnerability reduction however… • Health sector has higher risk reduction requirement • Health facilities must be functioning after disaster • Successful stories should be compiled and disseminated

  4. Conclusions • Structural vulnerability reduction is not enough. • Countries must have a health sector vulnerability reduction policy • Health facilities part of a network • Risk reduction in water distribution system is more complicated

  5. Conclusions • Need to identify achievable targets following 6 WCDR goals • All new facilities must be resistant to natural disaster 2015 • Existing essential services must be functioning after disaster

Next activities • Trinidad meeting (PAHO/WHO, CDERA, others) 27-28 May • Caribbean health targets for 2015 • Jamaica meeting (Jam, CDERA, others) • Development of indicators • IDB • OAS • Analysis of achievement in risk reduction in the Americas and identification of next steps (health sector publication,…) • Most regional entities indicated their intention to participation in the WCDR
