  3. What Is a PERT Chart • PERT (program evaluation & review technique) • A technique used to calculate the most likely outcome of a project using optimistic, pessimistic, and most likely task durations. This is not what PERT Chart Expert does. • The origin of the name PERT Chart Expertcomes from Microsoft, who started using the term PERT chartto describe a dependency-based chart. • Versions of MS Project prior to 2000 referred to this diagram as a PERT chart. Project 2000 refers to it as a network diagram. • The traditional PERT chart (network) diagram displays tasks with dependencies between tasks displayed as lines between the task boxes.

  4. What Is PERT Chart Expert • Windows-based project management software used to create PERT charts (i.e. Network charts, precedence diagrams, logic diagrams) • A PERT chart displays the tasks in a project along with the dependencies between these tasks • A great way to define and display the dependency relationships that exist between tasks • Simplifies the process of creating and displaying dependencies in an easy to follow diagram

  5. Used As a Standalone Planning Tool... • Use by itself to create PERT charts • You do not need MS project to use PERT Chart Expert as a standalone project planning tool • Contains a scheduling engine used to calculate when tasks occur based on the calendar and dependencies • Create project plans by clicking and dragging to create tasks and dependencies • Double-click a task to add task information • PERT Chart Expert can calculate critical path

  6. Used With Microsoft Project... • Can be used to generate PERT charts directly from existing MS Project files • Uses tasks and predecessors created in MS Project to generate a dependency-based view of the data • Seamless integration between PERT Chart Expert and MS Project • Changes are immediatelyreflected in MS Project • PERT charts can be created in PERT Chart Expert and then transferred directly to MS Project
