Professional Equipment for satellite Communication Exceptional performance and reliability Fully DVB-S, DVB-DSNG and/or DVB-S2 compliant Extensive feature/option range (BISS, VCM, ACM, …) Truly optimizes your bandwidth efficiency Azimuth:high speed modulation equipment, frequency converters, and data processors for the broadcast and TELCO markets Elevation: IP modems, receivers and appliances for the IP trunking and backhauling markets OEM DVB-S/DSNG/S2 Demodulators and frequency converter boards Horizon: integratedtransceivers used in terrestrial or mobile television networks

  3. Some of our equipment customers: TV channels System houses & Equipment manufacturers Satellite operators

  4. Some of our equipment customers Network operators Integrators & Distributors Broadcasting Unions

  5. Menos TV satellite interactive terminal Multimedia Exchange Network Over Satellite • Powerful and scalable architecture for multimedia exchange • Convergence between digital broadcast networks & broadband • IP Networks • Integration of an extensive suite of applications: • High quality audio and video contribution • Fast news gathering • Store and forward file transfer • Distance learning and training • Archiving of audio and video content • Collaboration services Menos IP satellite terminal

  6. Some of our Systems Customers Broadcast B2B broadband B2C broadband

  7. The market is moving towards the use of satellite for the primary distribution of the TV signal Both for Digital Terrestrial TV and Mobile TV SFN 3 SFN 1 DVB-T/H SFN 2 DVB-H/T SFN 3 DVB-T/H SFN 1 SFN 2 DVB-H/T SFN 3 DVB-T/H DVB-H/T SFN 1 DVB-H/T SFN 2 DVB-T/H DVB-H/T SFN 1 SFN 2 DVB-H/T DVB-H/T SFN 1 SFN 2 DVB-H/T DVB-H/T SFN 1 SFN 2 DVB-H/T DVB-H/T

  9. Newtec’s Azimuth & Horizon focuses on the core value of Newtec - efficient satellite transmission High Power Transmitter Multiple ASI out HZ920 & HZ914 Multistream Receiver Medium Power Transmitter UHF out HZ420 Intelligent Transceiver Low Power Transmitter UHF out AZ110 Multistream Modulator HZ420 Intelligent Transceiver

  10. DVB-S2 Multistream + MENOS = Multistream 16APSK Hear Multistream, Think Newtec E.g. 88Mbps With 16APSK 36 MHz transponder

  11. 12. Fast Network Deployment Distribution via satellite, perfectly adapted for broadcasting Independence of terrestrial infrastructure Efficient primary satellite distribution solution Network cost independent of number of remotes DVB-S2 with efficient encapsulation for higher bandwidth Combine multi-streams (several Mobile TV bouquets) on same transponder Easy and flexible local content distribution, also in SFN Compact and integrated remote unit Fast installation of remote sites + low on-site maintenance High quality DVB-S/S2 demod and DVB-T/H modulator Cost effective design of the equipment Improved efficiency and quality for ‘gapfilling’sites Reception via satellite, allows higher power output compared with repeaters Easier SFN set-up and management Limited initial capital investment Compact and cost efficient design No heavy terrestrial infrastructure required Low operational costs Satellite distribution using DVB-S2 Combine multiple streams with Stream Concentrator Fast network deployment Independent from terrestrial network deployment Additional revenue Local Drop allows distributing local content improving service Local advertisements can generate additional revenue Easy installation and maintenance Compact, self-contained and reliable equipments Remote management Satellite is efficient for Content distribution Horizon offers more advantages …..

  13. Mobile TV in MENA – Use Case Iraq • Mobile TV in Iraq • Deployment started end 2008 • Reasons: • Bad television reception • Mobile Culture • Reference case for Middle east & North Africa • Newtec equipment in head-end and towers

  14. Mobile TV Initial Phase one Stream Upgradable to multiple Mobile TV streams (and or adding IP stream for WiMax) Mobile TV HZ420 Intelligent Satellite to Terrestrial Transceiver Receive satellite signal & retransmit to mobile devices

  15. Mobision-E2M- AlsumariaTV : Mobile Tv in Irak Newtec AZ110 Sat modulator Encoders & content generation DVB-H IP-encapsulation ESG Content protection One bouquet (Stream) 20 Tv Channels SFN network Newtec HZ420 Integrated sat receiver & COFDM modulator & Transmitter

  16. Other Mobile Tv & DTT references • MediaFlo USA : Flo, networks moves from DVB-S to S2, smooth transition for more than 250 transmission sites • Modeo USA : New York, DVB-H trial 40 transmission sites • TDF France : DVB-T, 850 transmission sites • TIM Italy : DVB-H, more than 1000 transmission sites

  17. Conclusion • Lowest bandwidth use on satellite with • DVB-S2 • Multistream • Local Drop = Lowest operational cost • Single frequency Network compliant • Fast roll out / Less number of freqencies necessary / Easier regulations = Lower startup cost & Faster startup • 1-5 multiplexes distribution of DVB-T/H with only 1 Receiver • Least amount of remultiplexing at the towers • From head-end equipment to tower equipment, least number of devices = Lowest investment/capex cost

  18. MENOS- Multimedia Exchange networks Over satellite • MENOS: • Already in place at ASBU • PLATFORM for: • News exchange • Contribution & Distribution in Fixed/Transportable • TV/Radio Live/File • VoIP • Intranet/Internet Access • Collaboration tool • Central Archiving • HOW: • STAR network, with Central HUB • Always connected • Fully automated Reservation & Opportunistic transport

  19. TOWER 1 TOWER N MENOS Hub DVB-H distribution DVB-H distribution MENOS easy solution path for Distribution DVB-H • Integration of DVB-H in Menos FW stream • Low-rate content must be distributed (typ. 7.3Mbps) to large number of towers (100-500-1000). • Pre-assigned Contribution over MENOS HUB 1.2m distribution 1.8m contribution 4.8m

  22. Additional benefit : How to Monitor & Control Towers ? • Today’s problem: • Some towers are difficult to reach via a uniform terrestrial network ( eg GRPS) • On-line Software updates are even not possible • Solution: • Tower operators to use MENOS IP ACCESS system to control and monitor their Towers ( + SW upgrade) • Demo: • Presently such M&C system is deployed over the SES Astra2Connect IP Access System ( Sat3Play) • For example, the Tower at Newtec can be controlled via an Internet connection and VPN.( see snapshot hereafter)

  23. How to Monitor & Control Towers?(2)

  24. Conclusions • DVB-H over MENOS: • OPEX: use multicast of Sat3Play (up to 15Mbps) bandwidth efficient + easy to add additional services • CAPEX: only 1 low-cost terminal per tower + low-cost simple uplink stations • Local content insertion at MENOS HUB • Includes Monitoring and Control
