Exploring Animal Cognition: Can Animals Think?

This lesson plan for Mr. Verlin's class at South Philadelphia High School outlines an engaging exploration of animal cognition through the question, "Can Animals Think?" Students will utilize a K-W-L chart to document what they know, want to know, and learn about the topic. The lesson emphasizes reading comprehension, critical thinking, and group collaboration. Activities include pre-reading tasks, guiding discussions on quotes, notes, and thoughts, and a group reading check to assess understanding. By the end, students will gain insights and generate thoughtful research questions.
