  1. Objective: You will create an artwork in order to discover your knowledge of art elements, design principles, and aesthetic theories. DRILL: On the card with your name written on it answer: 1. What is art? Why do people make art? Why do you (or why don’t you make art?) Feel free to color and decorate this card. You will put it in your sketchbook. Welcome to Visual Arts

  2. Today’s Goals: • Discuss what art is and why people do it or don’t do it. • Make an artwork that shows art elements, design principles, and aesthetic theories. • Look at the parent letter and supply list.

  3. Artwork Criteria: • Must show at least one of the Art Elements. • Must demonstrate one principle of design. • Draw your face looking in the mirror that displays an aesthetic theory. • Be creative. • Use your space well. Add detail. 20 minutes. Objective: You will create an artwork in order to discover your knowledge of art elements, design principles, and aesthetic theories.

  7. How does this meet the criteria? • Which art elements? • Which principles of design? • Focal point/ Emphasis • Unity/ Repetition • Balance • Which portrait style? • Realistic? • Formal-stylized? • Emotional? • How is it creative? • How is the space used?

Parent Letter~ These are the expectations that I have: • Students must always be on time. • Students must follow school policies (ie dress code, rules for electronics, etc…) • Students must be respectful to themselves, others, and the supplies. • Students will always listen during instruction and not talk unless they raise their hand as part of the discussion. • Students will stay focused on assignments. • Students must try their best to learn, to be creative and open-minded, to enjoy the class. 

  11. Other information: • Music: I will play music in the classroom. Students can request music to play and on Fridays students can sign up to make a playlist or CD of their own (that is school appropriate) that I will play. The must not use their portable mp3 players or cell phones during class. I ask everyone’s cooperation with this. • Donations: Your son/ daughter can receive up to 10 points extra credit per quarter for any donations. Thank you for supporting the Visual Arts Department. List of required supplies and donations is on the back. • Final Exam: Fundamentals of Art students have a county written Final Exam. This course is a graduation requirement. Fine Arts and Studio Art will also have Final Exams that I prepare.

  19. Student information sheet~ • Include your grade level – 9th-12th • Include as much music as possible. • ART 1 – list any friends or relatives that have had art or Miss Gauger- list their name. • Art 2- list your Art 1 teacher.
