  1. 2. How does your media product represent particular social groups? MANOLIS vRONDAKIS

  2. Question 2 • The social group that I have targeted my magazine towards is young lower/middle class male and female adults aged 15-30 who enjoy rock and alternative music. The way I have represented this particular social group is through the language, colors and the mise-en-scene of my magazine. • I have represented this social group through language by using a mixture of slang and common English. My target audience connects with this language as they use it in everyday life. I have used a lot of explanation marks in my articles to make the text seem more fun and informal. • The target audience of my magazine generally care about how they look and are perceived more than general people, so I put a single ideal self / ideal partner subject on my front cover. I used a subject that was the same age as my target audience so it is easy to tell who the magazine is aimed at. I also used a level medium close up on my front cover’s main image to relate with the target audience more. This makes the target audience more inclined to buy the magazine. • A magazine which uses a similar style to mine is Kerrang!. The magazine has a similar target audience and also uses informal language to try and connect with the reader.

  3. 3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? MANOLIS vRONDAKIS

  4. Question 3 • Magazines need a suitable publishing company to distribute and promote the magazine by creating advertisements and digital marketing campaigns. Also by publishing magazine pages online, arranging interviews with editors and encourage critics to write reviews. • Q Magazine is the UK’s biggest music magazine and is published by Bauer. Bauer is a major publisher and publishes various other types of media. They also publish some of the UK’s other major music magazines including Kerrang and Mojo. This shows that they are a major publisher in the UK. The magazine I have created uses a lot of elements taken from Kerrang, so using Bauer would be a good choice, but they already have several music rock magazines so may not want to pick up another one. • Alternatively, the magazine could be published independently. An advantage of this would be having more control over the content of the magazine and not having to conform to a publishers standards. A disadvantage of this is that there is less money for advertising and it costs more to distribute as you don’t have access to the infrastructure that a major publisher will have. Getting major retailers to sell your product will also be next to impossible and doing any form of cross platform promotional advertisements such as sponsored interviews, TV advertisements or sponsoring tours are impossible due to lack of funds. • Because of this, I think that independent publishing is the best route for a small alternative rock magazine like this one.

  5. 4. Who would be the audience for your media product? MANOLIS vRONDAKIS

  6. Question 4 • The target audience for our new magazine titled ‘Amplify’ is young people ages 15-30. The magazine is both targeted towards males and females in a 60:40 split. I researched who to base the magazine on by comparing it to the buyer audience of similar magazines such as Kerrang. Kerrang’s main readers are aged 15-24 (60% male and 40% female). The median age is 19 and the magazine is mainly based on rock/punk music. My target audience use the latest technology and spend most of their money on going out to cinemas, bars and clubs and wear branded clothes. This is important to know for potential future advertises. Another magazine that’s similar to mine is Rock sound. 59% female and 49% male and spend over £245 million a year on fashion. 78% of the readers read the magazine and pick up new music and trends when reading. The magazine is targeted for both semi-skilled and unskilled workers. This is because many of them do not have a full time job as they are relatively young or are students. I had to price the magazine at £3.50 to appeal to them.
