  1. Ankur - 2008-2009 Budget Renewal

Project Background • Ankur is an integrated school with students from different social backgrounds. • The school premises are in Fergusson college, Pune • Total of 174 children out of which 35 children are supported by Asha SV SAC. • Emphasis on all aspects of learning, after school activities and other vocational skills. • Skilled teachers who deal with physically and mentally challenged students are sensitive to the needs/problems of SAC students from the slums. • Teachers have involved the parents in the education of the child.

Updates From the 2 Site Visits during 2007 • Currently there are 174 students out of which 35 are sponsored by Asha. • There are10-15 students per class. • Current grades supported are from Grade 1 to Grade 9. • Free counseling service for students & their parents is provided. • Along with regular academic curriculum, Ankur also provides its students PT, games, handicraft, drawing and other Vocational classes. • Breakfast & lunch for all students is provided by the school. • Contd…

Site Visit updates contd… • There is also a psychologist and a speech therapist on site. • Transportation to the students is the bus service that picks and drops off students.Ankur pays for the subsidized bus service. • Teachers are paid employees of the school. • Apart from Ankur there is ARC(Anugrah Rehab Center) which is an arm of Ankur that is for children with special needs and NVTC(Nirmitee Vocational training center) Both of these are managed by Mrs. Deshpande.

Status for 07-08 vs. 08-09 • In 07-08 Asha sponsored 35 students in Ankur – all from the lower income groups. • Now, we are increasing the sponsorship to 50 students. • Out of the additional 15 students some are special needs students. 1 students belongs to ARC which the arm for children with special needs. • For now the medium of instruction is Marati, though there is plan to start a classes where the medium of instruction is English • All classes are affiliated to Maharashtra State Board.

  7. Funds • Ankur doesn’t have its own FCRA A/c • Funds for 07-08 already sent through Asha Delhi/Varanasi • First half of funds for 2008-2009 are due April 2008.
