MICE Tracker Electronics Update

MICE Tracker Electronics Update. Progress towards a tracker test at KEK. Status: VLPC System. The VLPC system is complete and operating to spec Can easily control to the 9K spec. With heaters off T=5.3K Uses a Sumitomo SRDK-415D Cryo-cooler. This is the unit we plan to use throughout MICE.

  1. MICE Tracker Electronics Update Progress towards a tracker test at KEK

  2. Status: VLPC System • The VLPC system is complete and operating to spec • Can easily control to the 9K spec. • With heaters off T=5.3K • Uses a Sumitomo SRDK-415D Cryo-cooler. • This is the unit we plan to use throughout MICE

  3. Status: Cryo System • Full Commissioning done – Performance To Spec!!!

  4. Cryo Gas System

  5. Status: Cryo System • However, we did have problems with the thermal links in the cryostat as you know. • Thermal contact was unreliable • Gaps lead to vacuum space and, of course, provided VERY GOOD insulation • This was corrected with the addition of In wire compressed between the Invar box and the clamps

  6. Status: Cryo System • We have updated the design (Russ Rucinski and Michael Sarychev • Provides positive clamping!

  7. Status: Cryo System

  8. Status: Cryo System • So our plan is to do a full interation of the cryostat design and be ready for production of the second system late Fall • Thermal clamp redesign • Address top-plate flatness • Top plate was not quite as flat as we would like. VLPC cassette seal leaked slightly and non-standard gaskets had to be used. Sealed well, but not overly elegant • Simplify G-10 backing plates • Increase can diameter by 2 cm

  9. Status:Electronics • The system will use 4 AFE II boards from D0. These are now working 512 ch ADC Discrim. TDC in next version

  10. Status Electronics • 6 AFE II boards have now been fully tested and are available to MICE • All Channels tested • Temperature and bias control operation • LVDS readout functional • Still need to run the boards through the temperature and bias control calibration test stands

  11. Things still to do • Test readout of 4 boards through VSLB to VME • Calibrate the two VLPC cassettes with LED pulser • Noise • Gain • Dead channel count • Implement replacement board for sequencer control (readout controller) • This will allow for much more efficient asynchronous triggering • Test trigger • Cosmic ray test with tracker at Fermilab • THE TRACKER HAS ARRIVED AT FERMILAB!

  12. Timescale • Next two weeks • Get 4 board readout working • Get sequencer controller replacement working • July 18-22 • Calibrate VLPC Cassettes • July 25-29 • Cosmic Ray Test • August 1 • Pack and Ship to KEK • August 8-12 • Preliminary setup and shakeout at KEK • At least operate VLPC cryo 大丈夫
