Here, we'll discuss classroom rules, consequences, and our exciting curriculum based on California standards. Students will engage in narrative, persuasive, and research writing, while exploring core novels and ancient civilizations.   3. Rules and Consequences • 1 Warning • Detention • Saturday School • Raffle • Coupons – Free Answer, homework pass, sit anywhere for the day, eat in class, etc…

  4. Curriculum California Content Standards in front of textbooks • Language Arts: Text: Prentice Hall • Writing – narrative essay, persuasive essay, research, descriptive, and informal • Reading – Core novels (Wrinkle in Time, The Cay), short stories, poetry, informational, reading strategies, comprehension, vocabulary • Grammar – parts of speech, sentence structure, punctuation, usage, spelling • Social Studies – Text: McDougall Littell • Semester 1 – Ancient Civilizations (geography, early man, Mesopotamia, Egypt, Kush, and Israel) • Semester 2 – Civilizations (China, India, Greece, and Rome) • Objective: • Patterns in civilizations: geography, politics, economy, religion, culture

Visual/Performing Arts • Based on an extension of the curriculum • To develop student’s cultural awareness • To have fun while learning! • Address students multiple intelligences • May include: drawing, painting, skits, reader’s theatre, drama, technology, public speaking, debates • Students given choice in how they show their knowledge of CA State Standards

  6. ISN Folder • Interactive Student Notebook • Need to bring to class every day! • Students can use multiple intelligences • Study Guide • Neat, organized and complete = key to success!

Grading Policy • Grading for Language Arts: • Tests 30% • Projects, Presentations 20% • Quizzes 15% • Homework/Class work 10% • Writing/Essays/journals 25% • Grading for Social Studies: • Tests 30% • Projects 25% • Quizzes 15% • Homework/Class work 10% • Interactive Notebook 20% • Most weight is put on tests (studying important!), projects, notebook organization, and writing!

Homework Policy • Importance of Homework • Reinforces what has been learned • Prepares student for upcoming lessons • Teaches responsibility • Helps student develop strong study habits • Except homework 1 day late for half credit • Projects/Essays get lowered 1 whole grade for each day late • Absences • Students are responsible for obtaining and completing missed assignments if absent • Allowed 1 day for each day of absence to turn in missed work

Supplies • Main Supplies • Language Arts 3 prong folder • ISN – Social Studies 3 prong folder • Journal – spiral notebook, composition book • Notebook Paper • A Reading book of 150 pages: Free Choice • Donations (See Post-It’s on the Door) • Books Please!!!!! • Art Supplies – markers, colored pencils, watercolors, glue etc…
