On November 16, 2012, a significant meeting was held at CERN's Users' Office, led by Dr. Doris Chromek-Burckhart, to address data management challenges associated with experiments and databases. The discussion focused on improving data storage and manipulation practices, avoiding duplication, and establishing clarity in data definitions. Key topics included the synchronization of datasets across various databases and the exploration of a unified database solution. Participants aimed to enhance collaboration and streamline processes for better data management within experimental frameworks.

Meeting between Users’ Office, LHC experiments, GS/AIS Doris Chromek-Burckhart Head of CERN Users’ Office 16. November 2012
Scope of the discussion Databases storage and manipulation of data concerning experiment, institutes, teams, persons excluded: physics data detector data, installation database, other technical data Experiment/GreyBook/Databases meeting - 16 November 2012- Users' Office –D. Chromek-Burckhart
Purpose and Aims (1/2) • Set the scene: bring together experiments and foundation database experts • Identify commonalities and differences in the types of data, their manipulation, and in the technologies • Which data is entered and stored more than once and how can we improve or avoid this situation • Clarify meaning of certain data • Examples: • List of team members in grey book • List of teams – validity of teams • Collaboration members who appear in the grey book for a given team = allowed on publication list? Experiment/GreyBook/Databases meeting - 16 November 2012- Users' Office –D. Chromek-Burckhart
Purpose and Aims (2/2) • Search for and propose a solution which avoids duplication of data entry and storage • Intermediate solution: provide an synchronization mechanism for feeding data from one db to the another • Ideal solution: A common database • Collaborate for the implementation of an intermediate solution in an agreed framework Experiment/GreyBook/Databases meeting - 16 November 2012- Users' Office –D.
