General Information • The American University in Bulgaria was founded in 1991 in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria, through the joint efforts of USAID, the Open Society Institute, the Bulgarian local and national government, the University of Maine, and the City of Blagoevgrad. • AUBG is a private American-style Liberal Arts University, comparable to institutions in the US, where the liberal artseducation: - encourages students to develop critical thinking andcreative problem solving; - nurtures both the skills needed for successful careers and an ongoing intellectual curiosity. • The language of instruction is English. • Diploma recognized worldwide – US and BG (EU insert) AUBG Student Ambassadors Club
