The 17th Annual Conference of Advancing School Mental HealthSalt Lake City, Utah – October 25-27, 2012 School Mental Health: Promoting Positive Outcomes for Students The conference emphasized a shared school-family-community agenda to bring high quality and evidence-based mental health promotion, prevention, and intervention to students in general and special education and their families.

Collaborative, Multi-System Professional Development Tool:A Panel to Guide Building a Sustainable and Replicable Behavioral Health Tool for the Classroom Understanding Student Behavior in the Classroom – 6th – 12th grade Understanding Young Student Behavior in the Classroom - PreK-5th grade • Background for module development • Outlined the content within the modules • Emphasized the need to Increase awareness of strategies that teachers may use to help students achieve academic success • When to involve the School Resource Officer • Provide a framework of how participants could replicate this type of module development in their state.

SI 2013 – Plans Underway! • “Summer Institute is not about just [curriculum] content, rather the work of the agency” • Details not finalized yet; preparing to share at December meeting • Know that we are thinking differently about the overall structure • Vision includes: • Choice • LEA/Charter School involvement • More facilitation, less direct training • Would like to present new strands this summer

  16. EVAAS QUESTIONS • Ask Jenn first • Sandy Horne bills DPI every time she chats with you. We have put a serious dent in the contract. • Take advantage of the trainings in Region 7 and Region 2. The local PD leads have invited you to attend. Sandy will be there to train.

  17. Robert and Eliz Team Maintenance issues

  18. Team Maintenance issues • Your travel needs to be turned in monthly. Do not wait to send a bunch of months at one time unless you have only 1-2 short trips. Do not wait to get a check for one month before sending the next month. Keep them coming. • Your year-end evaluations are due by December 15, 2012. Expect a call from Robert, Yvette, or Eliz to discuss progress on the goals you submitted. If you are new to the team and haven’t written one, don’t worry. If you are unsure, contact Eliz. • Your new goals for the 2013 year will be due by the end of December, 2012.

  19. Issues Bin • Team meeting on Monday, November 26 is cancelled but Lunch and Learn is not cancelled. • Check the December SBE agenda for Educator Effectiveness items. Plan to listen in for those agenda items. The meeting is Dec 5-6. • November 22 and 23 are holidays. November 21 is not. Please send Eliz the dates you want off for the Thanksgiving and Winter holidays. If you aren’t taking any days, let Eliz know that as well. • Team meeting on December 10 is cancelled so that you are available to attend the EVAAS session in region 7. You must register in advance at the NWRESA website. • We need nominations about what NC’s Best Teachers Do.
