Board of Education ruled that segregation in schools was unconstitutional • States across the South resisted desegregation and used their police forces, along with citizen groups, to fight it • Ultimately, pressure from groups like the NAACP and the use of the National Guard and the US Department of Justice was needed to end segregation in schools • Boycotts and protests were used to fight segregation outside of schools • The Montgomery Bus Boycott, set off by Rosa Parks, is among the most famous
