Revitalizing Communities: EPA's Brownfields Program Overview and Achievements

The EPA's Brownfields Program empowers states, local communities, and diverse stakeholders to collaboratively revitalize contaminated properties. Through competitive grants, the program has funded over 2,500 projects, totaling more than $740 million, for assessments, cleanups, and revitalization initiatives. With over 14,600 properties assessed and over $13 billion leveraged in cleanup funds, the program has generated over 60,000 jobs. The proposed Brownfields Reauthorization Act of 2010 aims to increase funding levels, eliminate barriers, and enhance flexibility for communities in their redevelopment efforts.
