This study evaluates the effects of voltage reduction on energy savings and performance in single-phase load systems. It investigates how reduced voltage impacts various devices, including incandescent and compact fluorescent lamps, and a single-phase motor. Preliminary results indicate that lower voltage can decrease power consumption while maintaining lamp performance. The research aims to enhance energy efficiency strategies and assess potential harmful effects of voltage reduction on electrical equipment. Future work will involve further testing on computer power supplies and HID lamps.

Preliminary Result Comparison of Efficiency of the ½ hp Motor at Different Load
Preliminary Result Summary • As the voltage increases, the power proportionally increases with the lumen output for incandescent lamps • For compact fluorescent lamps, the lumen output doesn’t increase proportionally with the power and voltage • The input power approximately increases by 2% in each voltage change by keeping the output power almost constant for the single phase motor • The efficiency of the motor improves as it runs on full load
Speculations and Limitations • Voltage reduction may have an effect on the lamp life • No data on dynamic behavior yet
Conclusion & Future Work • Reduction of voltage reduces the power consumption and saves energy • The performance and reliability of these kind of lamps are excellent under this conditions • Input power varies linearly with the voltage for the motor • The efficiency of the motor improves as it runs from low load to full load on different voltages
Conclusion & Future Work • To test the computer power supply under different load conditions (from processing an MS-Office to operating a graphic program) by varying the voltage. • To test HID lamps under varying voltage
