World War 1. The beginning of World W ar 1. World War 1 started July 28, 1914 and ended November 11, 1918. They used poisonous gases, which were mustard and horrible chlorine gas .It would drown the person in their own liquid that their own bodies would produce. .

  2. The beginning of World War 1 World War 1 started July 28, 1914 and ended November 11, 1918. They used poisonous gases, which were mustard and horrible chlorine gas .It would drown the person in their own liquid that their own bodies would produce.

  3. The Assassination of Archduke Ferdinand Archduke Ferdinand was born on December 18, 1863 and died on June 28, 1914. He was married to Sophie, Duchess of Hohenberg. He was assassinated by a member of the Black Hand. He was killed by a massive bomb the diameter of the crater of the bomb was 1 foot and the depth was 6.5 inch.

  4. The Air Force In WWI the U.S. was a branch of signal corps. It had less then 50 pilots and only 5 officers in Europe. This war was the first war to have airplanes. They would have dogfights in the plane they would bomb places and found out that these plans were outstanding military weapons.

  5. Manfred von Richthofen(The Red Baron) Born May 2, 1892 and died April 21, 1918. He died near Amiens France, while he was flying. He was a flying Ace and flew a triplane. He killed almost 80 people in the War.

  6. Trench war A trench war is when they run up to a fence and shoot until some people died then they would jump back into their gruesome trench.

  7. The Western Front The Swiss border to the North Sea was a line of trenches and barbed wire fences. Artillery shells striped land down to the ground. It was called no man’s land.

  8. Grenades and Mortars Modern hand grenades in 1908 by the British. The French later made them superior. They made an antiquated ball grenade. A Rifle grenade was invented before the war. The British overlooked the weapon but the Germany showed interest in it. Mortars were small tubes that could shoot higher then a 45 degree angle.

  9. Flamethrowers The first flamethrower was made by Richard Fiedler in 1901. He showed the German army some models. Germany didn’t accept the flamethrower until 1911. The flamethrower could shoot fire and clouds of smoke up to 20 yards.

  10. Submarines or U Boat Submarines were extraordinary Stealthy. They could only be detected by RADAR. When on the surface they used diesel, otherwise when submerged they used battery. The diesel would charge the battery. A U Boat sank the RMS Lusitania, which was one of the reasons America got in the war.

  11. Zeppelins Zeppelins were big and could go at an altitude that no aircraft could, which made them vary hard to attack. They some times dropped bombs on targets. They were used to surveillance the enemy.

  12. Tanks WWI was the first war to associate the use of tanks. Tanks were armored, which held a small crew. They were used in precision bombing raids. They weren’t equipped with a cannon, instead they had a belt fed machine gun.

  13. The end of World War I World War 1 ended in 1918. In 1918 Germany surrendered and they called a truce. Nearly ten million people died.
