  3. Pol Pots rise to Power • Pol Pot gains support from Mao Zedong • U.S. puts Lon Nol in control of Cambodia • U.S. military leaves Cambodia • Khmer Rouge goes from 5,000 to 100,000 soldiers • Pol Pot’s “Super Great Leap Forward” begins

  4. Abuse of Power • Pol Pot declares “Year Zero”(Communism begins) • He rids society of capitalism, western culture, urbanization, religion, and all foreign influence • Newspaper, television, radio, mail, and bicycles were abolished
