  3. Goals • To give students the academic tools needed to progress to 6th grade. • To provide a supportive learning environment. • To have fun while we learn. • To make new friends and discover new interests.

  4. Class Rules • Be ready for SUCCESS! • H.U.S.D. guidelines and H.T.A. rules • P.B.I.S. Program -Positive Behavioral Intervention Support • R.A.I.S.E. Hawk High 5

R.A.I.S.E. • Respect: valuing the worth of others and treating them with honor and esteem   • Accountability: taking responsibility for your own actions   • Integrity: doing the right thing when no one is watching; honesty   • Safety: not dangerous or harmful   • Excellence: high quality; above and beyond what is expected

  6. Homework • Homework required 40-60 min. (M-Th.) • Practice skills, unfinished assignments, projects & IXL • Agendas signed daily by parent/guardian • Daily Reading for 30 minutes @ AR level

  7. Lunch Schedule • Students go to recess at 12:15 for 10 minutes of outdoor play • Students go to cafeteria at 12:25 to eat until dismissal at 12:45.

  8. Grades • Communication is key to your child’s academic progress. The information will be sent in the form of a progress report and report card each quarter. All forms of communication need to be signed by a parent and returned to school. • Parents may view online grades at any time with the correct password access.

  12. 6th Grade Saxon Math - ebook – check outSaxon Math Lessons follow the same 3 part lesson plan: 1. Power Up – beginning of every lesson and provides daily reinforcement and building of: basic skills, mental math and problem solving strategies. 2. New Concept – Clear explanations and examples that build depth in the student’s knowledge. 3. Written Practice – provides students to review, maintain and build on concepts and skills previously taught. Math spirals year round.

  13. Balanced Literacy • Spalding Method • Guided Reading • Literature Based Activities • Teacher Read-Aloud • AR reading levels and assessments • Monthly Genre reading projects – These will be done outside of class.

  14. Spalding MethodThe Writing Road to Reading Teaching the sounds is integrated with handwriting instruction.Precise handwriting is as important as precise pronunciation. Spalding Instruction is multisensory. Students see, hear, say and write the phonograms using all four sensory channels to the brain, improving and providing opportunities for practice.
